Big Event at Texas A&M

Big Event is a massive campus wide service project that aims to give back to the residents of Bryan-College Station. Students work in groups to do helpful projects for families in the community. When I participated in Big Event last year, my group and I spent hours pulling weeds, laying fertilizer, picking up trash, and various other outdoor service activities. It feels so rewarding getting to interact with families in the area, knowing that you're making a difference for them. It's an opportunity to give back to a community that has given me my home during my college career. Click here to visit the Big Event website.

Computer Science Peer Teacher

I work as a Peer Teacher for the Texas A&M Computer Science department. As a peer teacher, I get to mentor computer science students, answering their questions and attending their labs in order to help them succeed. I spend time helping them to understand concepts, while also working on debugging their code if they get stuck. Click here to visit the TAMU Peer Teacher website.

Scotty's House

As a member of the women's organization, Rosies, I have done service work for the non-profit child advocacy center Scotty's House in the Bryan-College Station area. Scotty's House is a place where children in abusive homes can go to get the help that they need, while offering them many resources that will help to improve thieir situation. In Rosies, I was in the philanthropy committee this past year. We organized an employee from Scotty's House to come speak at one of our general meetings in order to raise awareness about what they do, and to provide more opportunities for people to get involved with them. We also organized tabling events, during which we would set up a table somewhere on campus and talk to passing students about Scotty's House and how they can get involved.
